fun and games with names
Today I'm going back to the names I've highlighted as having potential, looking into them more deeply and creating some new and original gags.
Out of them I'll choose my 'Joke of the Day'.

Marlene Dietrich, Julie Andrews, Thomas Beecham, Jo Brand, Russell Brand, Mott the Hoople, Bill Bailey
I noticed that her surname is an exact anagram for Rich-Diet.
Marlene Dietrich: Swap the two halves of Marlene Dietrich's surname and you get the phrase 'Rich Diet.' I wonder if this ever inspired her to cook up great feasts for her family and friends?
j. andrews and thomas beecham
If you're a classical conductor and half your orchestra is out with a cold, why not rush out to all your local pharmacies and buy all their Thomas Beecham's Powders - while stocks last!
(For this one it helps if you know that Thomas Beecham was one of the world's most famous conductors)
the brand and brand brand
So, when was it that Jo and Russell Brand get married? They've certainly got their family comedy business down to a fine art
Bill Bailey and mott the hoople
From early British history we know that a castle on a hill surrounded by a moat is called a 'Motte and Bailey' castle
Joke 5 first attempt:
I understand members of the glam rock band Mott the Hoople are getting together with comedian Bill Bailey to do an impersonation of a Motte and Bailey castle.
Joke 5 second attempt:
I understand members of the glam rock band Mott the Hoople are getting together with comedian Bill Bailey to market a new range of 'Motte and Bailey' bouncy castles
today's joke of the day
But at the end of the day, there will be people reading this who can't relate at all to different types of castle and who've never heard of either Mott the Hoople or Bill Bailey.
But everyone will have heard of Julie Andrews, less so Andrews Liver Salts - but that's not essential to the understanding of the gag.
On the balance, my 'Joke of the Day' is:
Did you know that the world-famous star of Mary Poppins and the Sound of Music has hit hard times? In fact she's now the poster girl for the world-famous laxative Andrews Liver Salts, which are about to be renamed 'Julie Andrews Liver Salts'
